Lazy Daisy Oatmeal Cake (Magazine)

This looks older, types, no idea what magazine.  As always, spelling is Grandma’s.  ;-)  

1 1/4 c boiling water

1 c Oats

1/2 c margarin

1 c sugar

1 c brown sugar

1 t branilla

2 eggs

1 1/2 c sifted flour. 

1 t soda

1/2 t salt

3/4 t cinnamon

1/4 t nutmeg

Pour boiling water over oats: cover and let stand 20 min.  Beat butter until creamy; gradually add sugars and beat until fluffy.  Blend in vanilla and eggs.  Add oats.  Mix.  Pour batter into well-greased and floured 9 inch square pan.  Bake 350 for 50 to 55 minutes. 

Frosting

1/4 c margarine melted

1/2 c brown sugar

3 T half and half

1/3 c chopped nutmeats

3/4 c coconut

For frosting, combine all ingredients.  Spread evenly over cake.  Broil until frosting becomes bubbly.  Cake may be served warm or cold.
